The 45-year-old Aberfeldy Single Malt is a very special whisky from the Highland distillery. Distilled as far back as 1975, this strictly limited edition was crafted from seven of Aberfeldy’s rarest refill hogshead casks and is the oldest whisky from the distillery. This rarity is available at only a few selected specialist retailers and comes in an elegant black wooden case with a compartment drawer.

This Aberfeldy 45-year-old is the oldest whisky we have ever released from the distillery. Casks of this age and of this quality are arerare. Master Blender Stephanie Macleod chose seven of our rarest casks, each one distilled in 1975. Each of these single casks brings its own nuances and character; married together, they have created a wonderful harmony.

History

Aberfeldy has a fascinating history and a range of exceptional whisky expressions. Here’s a glimpse into both:

Aberfeldy Distillery was founded in 1896 by John Dewar & Sons and began production in 1898. It was built near the birthplace of John Dewar, the founder of the Dewar’s brand. The distillery has faced challenges, including closures during World Wars due to barley shortages. In 1972, it underwent significant expansion, doubling its capacity. Today, Aberfeldy is owned by Bacardi-Martini and continues to produce its signature honeyed single malts.

Expressions
Aberfeldy offers a variety of single malts, each with unique characteristics:

  • Aberfeldy 12 Year Old: Known for its smooth, honeyed richness and fruity notes.

This Aberfeldy 45 Year Old single cask edition has, uniquely for this auction, been bottled in a bespoke crystal carafe by the Crystallerie Royal de Saint Louis. Aberfeldy 45 Year Old Single Cask No. 3970 is the oldest expression from Aberfeldy. Distilled on 6th August 1975, this whisky is fruity yet balanced with subtle oak and has been bottled at 47% abv
